Halloween Movie Marathon
October is finally upon us, that means haunted houses, pumpkin patches, cooler weather, and most importantly, scary movies. With Halloween slowly creeping up on us, it’s the perfect time to catch up on all the best and scariest Halloween movies. So here is your guide to 31 Halloween movies you should watch before Halloween night.

- Halloweentown – Disney Plus
This classic Halloween movie is one worth watching every year around this time. With vibrant characters, a fun and compelling story, and a unique setting, this is a perfect film for the family to get together and watch.
- Nightmare Before Christmas – Disney Plus
There is a lot of controversy over whether this movie should be considered a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie, bust most everyone can agree, this movie can be enjoyed most around this time
- Hocus Pocus – Disney Plus
This movie is more than a little weird, a group of friends going on a grand adventure to stop three witches from becoming immortal with the help from a magical cat. While it’s not the most engaging movie on this list, the humor and innocence of this movie gives it its own charm.
- Alien – HBO, Hulu
While a little dated, this film still lives up to be one of the most gruesome and disturbing movies to date. Between the many jumpscares and gruesome deaths, this movie is enough to make the hair on the back of your head stand up.
- The Addams Family – Netflix
The Addams Family is a classic film about a family that sees the world differently than most.
- Annabelle Creation – Amazon Prime
One of the scarier movies on this list, Annabelle Creation is definitely one of the more memorable movies. With many creepy shots, and impressive jumpscares, this movie is sure to provide an experience you won’t soon forget.
- Before I Wake – Netflix
This incredibly unique movie explores the dreams of a tormented young boy. This film has one of the most insightful stories in a horror movie that will leave you thinking for days on end.
- Psycho – Amazon Prime
One of Alfred Hitchcock’s best pieces of work, Psycho has been considered one of the best horror movies of all time. Though it is in black and white, if you are able to look past the lack of color, you will be treated to an enjoyable and suspenseful movie.
- The Shining – Amazon Prime
Based off of Stephen King’s novel of the same name, this psychological horror blockbuster will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Don’t watch this movie by yourself, cause this movie will keep you awake for days on end.
- As Above, So Below – Netflix
This movie will take you on a journey to discover the secrets of the Catacombs in Paris, France. While most of this action-adventure film lacks horror. The well crafted story and character building more than make up for it to make this a must see film.
- Silence of the Lambs – Netflix
This classic horror movie is very different from most other scary films. While you may not fully understand this movie your first time watching this movie, giving it another watch to fully understand it is definitely worth it.
- Insidious – Netflix
Insidious is a different kind of movie that doesn’t rely on CGI or gore like many horror movies of today. Rather it focuses more on interesting characters and an enticing yet oddly humorous plot.
- Paranormal Activity – Netflix
This spine chilling thriller is one that should be on every horror movie enthusiast’s list. What makes this movie interesting is that much of the “paranormal activity” happens through the view of a security camera. With a very engaging plot, and even more engaging scares, this movie is sure to give you a frightful experience.
- Halloween – Amazon Prime
Possibly one of the most iconic horror movies of all time, this classic thriller does an excellent job of creating suspense. While about half of this movie is just build up to the actual kills, the wait is definitely worth it. With lots of gore, scares, and creativity put into the kills, this movie is sure to leave you speechless.
- The Ritual – Netflix
This relatively new british horror movie definitely is a different take on the horror genre. This movie no doubt has one of the most impressive monsters I have seen in a movie. While not entirely scary, this movie is still worth a watch.
- Child’s Play – Hulu
Before there was Annabelle, the only scary possessed doll in the horror genre was Chucky. With a witty attitude, and a creative personality, Chucky makes the scares in this movie not only spine chilling, but entertaining to watch.
- Beetlejuice – Amazon Prime
This strange and unusual movie has proved itself to be one of the most classic Halloween movies of its time. While a little more strange than scary, the witty humor, interesting plot twists, and fully developed characters make this a great movie for the whole family.
- Nightmare on Elm Street – Amazon Prime
Nightmare on Elm Street is probably the most creative title on this list. It stars Freddy Krueger, a demonic man who kills you in your dreams. The creative kills in this movie won’t just make you jump, but will have your eyes glued to the screen.
- Cabin in the Woods – Hulu
Cabin in the Woods has one of the stronger casts on this list. With actors such as Chris Hemsworth and Kristen Connolly combined with a new take on zombie thrillers, this movie is definitely worth a watch.
- Frankenweenie – Disney Plus
One of the more heartfelt movies on this list, this movie explores the relationship between a boy and his recently deceased dog as they try to prevent an upcoming zombie invasion. With a very unique artistic design and story, this is a family movie everyone can enjoy.
- The Invisible Man – Hulu
With this being the newest movies on this list, not many people have had the chase to see this movie yet. While mostly everyone has heard of the Invisible Man, this movie takes him one step further giving him a full on backstory making him a truly unique character.
- IT (2017)- Amazon Prime
This remake of the original IT movie not only does everything the original did, but it expands upon it and improves it, making it a remake movie much worth watching.
23.A Quiet Place – Amazon Prime
John Krasinski’s thriller movie ‘A Quiet Place’ took the genre of a monster-based movie to a whole new level. By adding the factor of not being able to make noise, there is an added level of suspense that you will not find in any other movie.
- Sinister – Amazon Prime
What makes this movie different from others in its genre is that it takes place after a bunch of events you have not seen. With the prequel to the movie being released after this one, going into this movie there are many references to events you have not seen nor do you understand. This adds to the mystery of what is truly going on this movie, leaving you to speculate the entire time.
- Pet Sematary – Hulu
Much like IT, this remake of the original 1989 movie takes everything the original does and improves upon it. With upgraded CGI and an adjusted story, this movie is worth seeing whether you’ve seen the original movie or not.
- Saw – Hulu
When two individuals awaken in a room with no memory of how they got there, they soon discover they are mere pawns in a game deviated by a serial killer. This classic horror film takes a very unorthodox approach, making the whole movie a game, and it makes this movie a very enjoyable experience.
- Ghost Stories – Hulu
This movie is very unique not only because it is balancing three different stories in one plot, it does so in a very different way. Instead of just telling three ways, a detective is trying to piece together these three stories in order to uncover one big plot. The unique storytelling in this movie makes it a very unforgettable experience.
- Poltergeist – Netflix
This scary movie puts other horror movies to shame when it comes to jumpscares and just plain scare factor. When ghosts start haunting a family through their television, 5 year old Carol Ann goes missing, and the hunt is on to find her. This thriller movie is probably one of the scariest movies of all time, making it quite enjoyable to watch this time of year.
- The Conjuring – Amazon Prime
While at first this seems like a light-hearted family movie, it soon changes tone when the dog refuses to enter the newly bought house by the Perron family. This movie works very well because of its subtlety. What’s truly going on is not very evident at first, making the movie all the more satisfying at its height.
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre – Netflix
A classic horror film, Texas Chainsaw Massacre takes blood and gore to the next level. Regarded as many as the scariest movie created its initial release, this movie really commits to try to scare you witless.
- Joy Ride – Amazon Prime
At first glance, this may seem like a light hearted road trip film, but that will soon change when a simple joke gets blown way out of proportion. This movie definitely leaves a mark on the horror genre for its distinctive story, and it’s chilling yet humorous take on horror.
