The Oct. 6 varsity football game’s halftime show featured some familiar faces, and quite a few new ones. With a sassy twirl, future Silvies ranging from ages three to 17, took the field alongside the Silverados.
A total of 100 dancers took the field, including 53 current Silvies and 47 future Silvies.
“I’m super proud of their energy and commitment,” Pieri said
These future Silvies performances, held every other football season, invite interested students from a variety of grades and campuses to participate.
”We were lucky enough to have all feeder schools represented,” Silvies Director Kimberly Pieri said.
Their performance was choreographed by Pieri, but the dance itself was taught to the young dancers by Silvies military officers, including senior Isabella Medina and junior Jessalyn Brown, in a total of two, one-hour rehearsals.
“[The first practice was] confusing,” Medina noted.
“It was definitely hectic-” Brown said. “-but fun. I can tell they had fun.”
Despite the kinks in the first practice, each member came back more than prepared for their next practice.
“I was really proud when they came back knowing their stuff…. [and at the performance] they were so good, they rocked it,” Medina said.
The performance may have been meant to introduce young dancers to the Silvies program, but the experience was rewarding for all ages.
“Their energy, tenacity, and their wanting to perform is so invigorating and renewing,” Pieri said.
