Colby the Cougar brings the school spirit to Cy Creek games and events, but many Cougars are unaware of the identity of the man behind the mascot.
“I wanted to go to all the football games,” senior Brendan Sembera, who plays Colby the Cougar, said.
Sembera said he is glad he got to serve as the school mascot before he graduates this spring.
“It’s pretty easy; anyone can do it,” Sembera said.
David Kerr, varsity football defensive line and softball coach, believes that Sembera has been great at his job.
“I think he does good and is good at hyping up the crowd,” Kerr said.
In addition to hyping up the crowds at football games, Sembera also makes a big show during pep rallies on and off the court.
Sophomore Keandrea Travis frequently saw Colby perform on the sidelines while she performed with the Silvies.
“He is a very nice mascot and he does a very good job,” Travis said. “ He also helps entertain the crowd when the Silvies get tired.”
Football season may have ended, but Sembera will continue to serve out his term as mascot, and time will tell who will don the Cougar head next.
