SNAP in danger of cancellation
Senior Night After Prom meeting will be held this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the small commons.
So far only $3,000 have been raised out of the $30,000-$40,000 needed. SNAP President Kim Zapalac said the decision whether SNAP will happen will be decided at this meeting. Cy Creek would be the only school in the school district to not have SNAP.
“We have been working really hard to try to get the fundraising to get the money, but we have not had enough volunteers to help us and the students have not been selling or purchasing the items we are selling as the fundraiser,” Zapalac said.
There are approximately only seven to 13 parent volunteers when 40 is needed. Another issue besides lack of funding and parent volunteers involves the lack of communication between administration and students to get the word out about fundraising and deadlines.
“It is a combination of things,” she said. “What can you do? SNAP is the fatality of the lack of communication. How can we get better lines of communication open from the parents organizing SNAP to students at school?”
Besides fundraisers like the Yankee Candles or Butterbread selling, senior T-shirts and lanyards are on sale during lunches. Shirts cost $15 and lanyards $3 and the money goes towards SNAP.
“It’s truly not about the venue,” she said. “It’s about the activities at the venue and being there with all of your friends for the last gathering.”
