Varsity swim to take on championships this Friday
Varsity swim will compete in 17-6A championships this Friday, Jan. 27, at the CFISD Natatorium beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Creek’s varsity swimmers have conducted two-hour practices, five days a week in preparation.
“Our team is struggling most with partly motivation, just because we are mostly a water polo team, but swimming isn’t our main thing,” junior Makynna Smith said.
Senior swimmer Khidr Siddiqui is preparing mentally and physically. “Eating and drinking a lot of water” is what Siddiqui considers it takes.
Coach Jeff Chandler is concerned with his athletes’ performance both in and out of the pool.
“We’ve been really handling academics this year,” Chandler said.
Swim regional meets will be held Feb. 2-4, and the state meet will be Feb. 17-18, according to the district website.
Update: Jan. 25, 7:38 a.m. A previous version of the story referenced the 17-6A districts, but it’s the championships that will take place Jan. 27.
