Orchestra held their fall concert Oct. 5 and played seven songs. The first song was ‘Kabuki Dance’ by Richard Meyer, which started off slow but got faster as the song progressed.
‘Scottish Folk Song’ held the audience’s attention “and transported them back to a different era. Meyers’ ‘Ear-igami’ played smoothly, followed by ‘The Stars and Stripes Forever’ by John Philip Sousa.
The next piece was ‘Finale from Classical Symphony’ by Sergei Prokofiev, which had so much passion embodied in the performance. The concert’s actual finale was ‘The Carnival of the Animals’ by Camille Saint-Seans, which translated expected animal noises into instrumental arrangements.
“Each piece had a different animal and how it would sound on each instrument,” junior Navya Makkapati said.
Makkapati played as a soloist and performed “a soothing swan” alongside senior Jaimie Nguyen. The piece also included turtles, elephants, hens and roosters, kangaroos and even fossils.
“We don’t know if we are always going to be perfect; our instruments could be out of tune or one of us is going to have cold hands,” Makkapatti said. “It’s incredibly stressful when all it takes is one mishap and could ruin the flow of the concert.”
Orchestra’s next concert will be Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium.
