The stage lights dim and the theatre goes dark; a hush falls over the audience and a sudden pulse of music fills the air as six powerful voices cut through the silence. One by one, the spotlight reveals each queen in their dazzling regal outfits, harmonizing in perfect sync and ready to rewrite history into “her story”—all in the form of a fierce singing competition.
Cy Creek’s theatre production of Six: Teen Edition was an electrifying, energetic and widely fun take on the famous Broadway musical. The show was alive from start to finish, the lyrics were clever and humorous and the diverse musical genres all made for a widely entertaining night. Each actress dominated the stage, bringing their respective queens to life as “one of a kind, no category!”
Going into the show and having never seen the original play, we knew little more than its premise—a modern retelling of Henry’s VIII’s six wives and the tragedies they endured—but what unfolded onstage well exceeded our expectations. From the beautifully emotional rendition of Heart Of Stone, to the spunky vocals featured on Haus Of Holbein, Six: Teen Edition was an incredible performance that had us dancing and singing along until the very end.

The dedication of the theatre team shined through brilliantly throughout the musical, proving once again the amount of hard work and commitment that comes with every show. There was a big emphasis on costumes, themed lights, and sound effects to make the actors stand out, and it was especially interesting to see them put their own Creek spin on the original play. This was most notable in the way the actors directly addressed the audience several times, setting off what was arguably the best part of the night. The encore, MegaSIX, featured each queen reprising a part of their song and encouraging the audience to sing and dance along to their favorite one. As the queens declare “it’s time to rise above,” the play bids farewell to the audience with a lively pop show finale that surely made it a night to remember.
With witty dialogue and spunky attitudes, glittering sequins and gorgeous storytelling, Six: Teen Edition was nothing short of an astonishing performance, and we at The Cougar Chronicle can’t wait to see what’s next for Troupe 931.
