Boys soccer starts season strong
The varsity boys soccer team found their stride starting off the season with a team full of many returning players. The boys will play Cy-Fair at 5 pm on February 9.
Junior Ethan Birdsall, the leading scorer of the team, said it feels amazing to be a part of a great team this year and wants to do even better once districts start.
“We are mainly treating the preseason as preparation for our district games,” Birdsall said. “The goal is to get better in the preseason so we can make a strong run through districts.”
The team is hungry for success this year starting with a 7-2-1 record. Coach Joshua Odear said the team’s experience helps younger players adjust to the competition.
“Our veteran players have done a good job of competing and I think they remember the drop off we had toward the end of last year,” Odear said. “I think we will focus a little better and will be better prepared for our district games.”
Coach Odear said he feels most excited about how the team competes in district this season. The team is more dynamic than past teams, and some players play different roles which makes the team more exciting to watch.
“I am excited to watch us attack the goal,” Odear said. “I think our fans will see a more exciting game of soccer than we have had in the past few years.”
